We did meet our targets to create a horror film opening. For example;
- The characters were positioned in a dark, mysterious way
- Mise en scene used matched the genre
- A variety of different angle shots
The lighting was off-putting, not very good towards the end of the film. This is because the last shots were filmed later, during winter time, it gets dark early and we don't get enough time to shoot with the exact same lighting we've used in previous shots as we did have different timings in our filming schedule. An improvement for this would be to try and schedule different days on same times.
We did not include shots we have planned to include because we thought the lighting used was not not very satisfying. One problem we faced was not being able to see what was actually happening in the footage during the editing process. We realised that this was because the shots were filmed in dim/no lighting and that was a mistake. During the filming process, we could see the footage clearly through the camera screen, but when it came to editing it was hard to see from the computer screen. I think this is a problem that we should take into consideration when filming in the future. Lucky for us we had filmed extra shots for more footage and other shots that slightly changed our story idea.
Other less important shots were used as an alternative to replace the ones with poor lighting. This was not included in the rough cut we think we need to refilm a few of them after the christmas holidays.
I think we had too many shots but they did make sense, we had a variety from different angles and we did not miss a single shot from our shot list.
