THE PITCH - Representation (Written by Lama)

In this title sequence, Lama is a teenager that is getting ready to go out with her friends. In films, teenagers are usually represented in a negative way. They are rebellious; they are always going out to party, always drinking, smoking and being destructive. Teenagers don’t look smart or formal in films; they dress inappropriately, which means they are not presentable. Therefore, this gives an impression to the audience that they are not important or respected members of society; they just live for the weekend and couldn’t care less about anyone else.  Teenagers are usually stereotyped by their appearance, gender and personality. They are often being shown as being a problem to society, for example, controlling, rude and disrespectful.

However at times, recent films have been showing how teenagers are very supportive of each other. This tells the audience that teenagers aren’t entirely bad and they can be responsible at times. Personally, I think the majority of media types present an inaccurate and negative portrayal of teenagers according to their appearance and among many other things. This is because some of their characters and dilemmas are not realistic.
