The purpose of a title sequence.
The title sequence of a film is used for 3 main reasons. The first reason being that it's there to capture the attention of those who's watching it. No one wants to go watch a film and leave after the first few minutes because its boring, therefore title sequences need to give a 3 minute glimpse of all the excitement we are about to watch and leave us anticipating and wanting more.
The second reason being that its there as a legal contract that the people involved with making the film are to be credited for it. That's why it always shows people such as the cast that's staring, the behind the scenes crew, the directors, the producers, the designers, and it also shows an ident, which shows the distribution and production company who made the film such as the 'Warner Bros'.
The third reason being that its there to give you an insight of what your about to see, they may introduce a key location or character or they may use the title sequence as a metaphor of something important we are about to see. Not only that but it can give us a clue on the genre of the film so that we know if its the type of film we are interested in.
