Evaluation
I have advanced many of my skills during the planning and editing stages. During the planning stage i was able to list all the different types of shots. Drawing a person wasn't just to draw a figure in the box and thats it, we had to make sure that the person had most of its body on the top bit of the box. ( e.g. if we draw a 3x3 grid on the storyboard boxes, the figure/body has to be in either one of the top spaces from shoulder and above.)
The filming stage wasn't very amusing for me i really didn't wish to contribute but no one else wanted to act so i decided to take part, my acting wasn't as good as i have never done drama before. we have cropped out many bits where i was laughing, it had reached to a point where we had to refilm a shot. On the other hand, i did remember my lines and tried not to smile or laugh. After completing the film i have realised that it was exceptional and good considering that it was our first short film.
During the editing process, i was able to crop, cut and remove sound from a particular type of shot/film. We are also quite common about how to speed up a video because we had done it for several times in the film. Removing the image and leaving it as audio, then adding it to a shot with no sound was also a successful step we had done to our film. In my opinion, i think we edited the match cuts quite professionally and we also followed the 180 degree rule.
After all, I think i was quite advantageous and developed most of my skills during the editing process, because that was when i had worked greater. Our storyboard was not as long and the type of shots weren't clear. We thought we would find it difficult to film without having a proper storyboard, yet we had found it simple and enjoyable. However, we have picked up a few mistakes we didn't realise after completing our preliminary film. For example, at first when Abdi walked into the kitchen, it seemed like no one was there but then i the following shot i suddenly appeared in the kitchen. This was one of our mistakes and i think we should've made it clear that i was sitting in the kitchen inside.
Another mistake was that i didn't stick to my position from shot to shot, in one shot i had my phone in my hands and in the other it was on the table. So i think next time we will have to be more aware of that. However this preliminary was very helpful, we had the chance to look at our mistakes (this will help us improve later) and we have gained some skills that we could use in the actual film.
