Genre
The top three successful genres at the UK box office were:
Animation, Action and Comedy. On the other hand, the three least

which made 141 films.

This information tells you that it doesn't matter what genre
of the film you produce, but it's the audiences preference of what genres they
like best. Also it depends on how captivated they are by the film, which will determine
whether or not they want to watch the film.
Audience
The age group 15 - 24 made up the largest proportion of the
cinema admissions in the UK. The most successful comedy film with this age
group was Hangover II.
The film that was most popular with the over 50s was Quartet,
which is a comedy drama.
The most popular genres for women were a broader range of
genres, such as UK films. UK films appealed
most to the female audience type.
The three films that were most popular with the age group 7 -
14 were: One Direction, Wreck -It Ralph and Despicable Me 2. This tells us that
their most preferred genre is mostly animated films, which have comedy elements
within the films.
The three most popular films with the 35 - 44 age group were:
Frozen, The Croods and Jack the Giant Slayer. This might be because they could
have children of their own therefore have to watch their children's genre preference.
Furthermore, animated films can also be represented as family films and there
are many families who like to watch films together and animated films are the
most suitable for everyone. Also this contributes to the success of the
animated genre as the 35 - 44 year olds are buying films for their children,
and there are many children who would want to watch these types of films.
The three most popular films with the age group 25 -34 were:
Django Unchained, Fast and Furious 6 and Rush.
The most popular films with the middle class audience of C1
were: Rush and Captain Philips. The most popular films with the middle class
audience of C2 were: Oz the great and powerful, and Fast and Furious 6.
The audience in London watch different films to the audience
in Scotland. People in London prefer to watch films such as Django Unchained,
which is an action film. People in Scotland prefer to watch films such as Sunshine
on Leith, which is a comedy musical. The difference seems to be in busy areas
such as London they prefer fast and active films. Whereas, in quieter and
calmer areas such as Scotland they prefer amusing and melodic films.
