film title sequences
Forest Gump
The opening of the films starts with the Ident. Then the
music is played right away to establish the tone of the film. After there is an
establishing shot of the feather floating in the sky. The camera then follows
the feather with a tracking shot all the way through the title sequence, whilst
the credits are being displayed, which then follows on to the actual film
beginning.
In the title sequence we are introduced to the feather, scenery
of a town, a man (the first main character we see), people on the streets and
car engines revving sounds.
This type of opening credits is referred to as a narrative
opening as it's starting with the actual film. The feather has a significance
in the film opening because it introduces the setting and leads us to the main
character, which is when the film starts.
The genre of the film is portrayed through the soft, relaxed
music which sets the tone of a calm, family film.

The opening of the film starts with the fierce music
soundtrack immediately. The credits are then displayed over the moving images.
The images are very dark, fast and shady, which helps represent the genre of
the movie and set the tone.
In the title sequence we are introduced to various flashing
images which are hints of what the film is about. This type of opening is
referred to a discrete opening as doesn't start with the actual film, but
images displayed have meaning towards the film as it represents the film which
makes you intrigued to watch more.
The opening starts with a plot set up in the opening for the
film. The opening also establishes the genre and tone of the film, in this film
it's portrayed as mysterious, violent, dark and dangerous.
The genre of the film is portrayed through the hard, loud and
fierce music that is immediately played as soon at the opening starts. Through
the images displayed in the opening it displays the genre of an action/thriller
type film.
