Blog post 2- Preliminary Evaluation- Daisy Pamment

Preliminary Evaluation

In my preliminary film I developed a lot of skills and overall I think it was quite successful.

Before filming we were taught how to use the equipment, this was helpful because without that I would have had no clue but after being told how to do it, I found it quite straightforward. I featured in my film therefore I didn't do too much work behind the scenes with the camera but I hope to with the next filming task. I was nervous about featuring in my film as I'm not particularly a good actress but it tuned out pretty well, other than I looked ugly in our prop, the wig, but I guess I had to take one for the team. I think I was quite good during the filming aspect of the task because I made sure to remember my lines and hold in my laughter. After filming we were given a short tutorial on how to edit, I found this quite hard as the mac's can be a bit overwhelming as the editing app we used was complexed but after having a few goes i found it a lot easier.

Like I said I think overall our film was very successful, we had to edit out quite a lot of mistakes but it looked great in the end, an aspect I liked in our film was using effects such as slow motion to make things look more fancy and to create a bit of suspense, we were also praised for our variety of shots and camera movements. Something we found a bit hard at first was to edit the film so that each shot ran seamlessly from one to the other but we got the hang of it in the end. Something I would try to change for the next task is probably to take quite a lot of repeats of each shot as sometimes when we only had a couple shots to choose from, neither was perfect and we kind of just had to make do however for the next task I hope to improve on that. Saying that, the story board and shot-lists made it easier to know when to start and stop each shot and where to learn your lines up to for each shot to ensure everything run smoothly.

Despite the mistakes we made along the way, our preliminary film was good considering it was our first attempt however due to the odd mistake here and there I'm glad we had a go at that before going into the next filming task.
