What is a good title sequence according to Kyle Cooper?
Kyle Cooper is 'the man who single handedly revitalised' the main title sequence as an art form. He says that setting an expectation and capturing the audience to get them excited makes a good title sequence.
The font you used in the film Seven can relate to the main character that also has the same type of writing. It makes it seem as if that character has written these credits, which gives a sense of the character being closer to the audience. The font used in films is important as the type/font adds to the overall tone.
Cooper really liked the title sequences of Deadzone and To Kill A Mockingbird. He said that the title sequence in Deadzone was really mysterious and had simple typography which he found very captivating. The reason to him liking the title sequence of To Kill A Mockingbird was because the type makes a good contrast and the obsession of the character is photographed ‘beautifully.’
When Kyle Cooper talked about story based main title sequences, he meant that the title sequences had a specific backstory but also a clear metaphor.
Two problems that a studio may face after an audience test screening is that the studio might not have enough budget to re-film a scene. Also, the test audience may not understand a particular aspect of the scenes.
The two minutes of the title sequence is very important for the studio as a title sequence determines whether the audience continue to watch the film or if they decide that it’s not good enough and stop watching it.
