Blog post 5- Kyle Cooper

What makes a good title sequence.

Kyle Cooper is accredited as the man who single handily revitalised the main title sequence as an art form.
Cooper thinks a good title sequence is when:

-It sets an expectation
-It dovetails seamlessly into the film
-Makes you forget about everything else and gets you excited
The thing that makes the font in film Seven so important is that it's written because the main character is a serial killer who writes about his killings in a journal. Also the written font looks creepy which sets the vibe for the rest of the film.

Reasons Cooper likes the sequences for Deadzone and To Kill A Mockingbird:

Deadzone:
-The simple typography
-The music was great and mysterious

To Kill A Mocking Bird:
-How the type created a contrast.
-It was beautifully photographed

A 'story based' main title sequence is when the story has a specific back story which represents a metaphor or a pun.
Problems faced by a studio after test screening:

-They don't have enough of a budget to do another shot

-The audience doesn't understand a particular aspect

The 2 and a half minutes of the title sequence becomes important for the studio because it becomes another scene that helps put in some extra information that got cut out and makes the story like more understandable.

Cooper thinks titles sequences are important to a film because the title designs can help the movie by telling their back story and it helps the audience have a sense of the genre of the film before it starts.
